Pip & Nut wanted to understand where out-of-home snack-bar ranges were falling short – and where a stronger offer could unlock growth. CHOOSI spoke to 276 UK snack-bar buyers, combining buying behaviour with shopper voice to uncover the unmet need and identify where to act first.

Pip & Nut is a UK food brand known for its natural nut butters and snacks. As they explored the opportunity for snack bars out of home, they needed to understand what shoppers actually wanted, why existing ranges weren't always meeting their needs, and where a stronger offer could have the clearest commercial role.
CHOOSI recruited 276 UK snack-bar buyers, combining channel behaviour with authentic shopper voice to understand what people buy, what they're missing and what a better offer could look like. The study combined open-text responses on out-of-home occasions with full voice transcripts on buying motivations and behaviour.
The study was structured across three critical areas the Pip & Nut team needed to resolve:
Occasion Understanding
Where and when shoppers reach for a bar out of home, and which missions and moments matter most.
Purchase Barriers
Why existing ranges fall short – the moments where shoppers pick up a bar, then put it back.
Product Cues
Which pack, format and flavour cues give shoppers the confidence to buy.
CHOOSI turned hundreds of shopper voices into a clear, commercially focused view of the opportunity – giving Pip & Nut an evidence-backed direction for what to explore next, from launch to actionable insight in just three days.

strategic route forward – three clear directions covering where to target snacking occasions, how to close the gaps that lose shoppers, and which product cues to lead with
The speed meant Pip & Nut could move fast on where to focus next. The depth of insight meant they could trust every direction. Together, 276 voices and three days of research turned into one clear, customer-informed route forward for the range.
How quickly can CHOOSI turn shopper research into a commercial recommendation?
CHOOSI can move fast from brief to insight – the Pip & Nut study ran from brief to actionable insight in three days, delivering 276 completed shopper interviews and a clear, strategic report ready to share with the wider team.
What's the value of combining behavioural data with shopper voice research?
Behavioural data shows what shoppers buy and where. Voice responses reveal why – the reasoning behind a purchase, or the moment a shopper puts a bar back on the shelf. Combining both turns category data into a clear commercial direction.
Can CHOOSI research help identify a new commercial opportunity, not just test an existing range?
Yes. In the Pip & Nut study, CHOOSI combined shopper behaviour and voice research to size the out-of-home snack-bar opportunity and identify exactly where a stronger offer could have the clearest commercial role.
